Note: T.O. Lee's response is in blue fonts appearing below:
Dear Mr. Lee,
Very thanks for your kind and timely warning pointing out the importance of being always humble and for your friendly and deep-meaningful encouragement.
As a matter of fact, I never think I am a DC practitioner of a high calibre that you kindly appraise, because I am clear I should keep up knowing much more about transport and insurance knowledge as well as laws. There is a long road before me where I have to spend much time and energy.
As educated from a child that humbleness is a virtue(it's a Chinese tradition as you know),I will keep myself mild and humble, bearing in mind your warning at any time.
I am pleased to be recommended by you to study Buddhism which I am also interested in, but I don't know how to understand it which after all is too profound to me. I have ever read some books about Buddhism and found those words and sentences in them vague, abstruse and insubstantial, making me feel nothing to hold on, although on their face they are short and easy.
When I first touched Buddhism I had the same problems as you have encountered. It is no use hearing Buddhism in bits and pieces mode. In order not to waste my time on this, I waited for an opportunity to have someone authoritative to explain the basics to me. After waiting for 60 years, when I landed in Toronto, I have this opportunity.
Please let me know if you can read Traditional Chinese characters as appearing above.
As to my opinion about the problem of "signature of correction", I shaped it in the course of my daily business of examining documents, and pointed it out after I have read through ICC opinions(1975---2001) and was finally sure about it and wrote it down after I happened to read your article finding with great pleasure your point of view just same as mine and later I read the latest DOCDEX case and the unpublished opinion regarding the problem of correction published on DC-PRO.
Now I disagree with the robotic explanation in my comments on ICC Document 470/TA.562 included in ICC Document 470/1019, attached herewith. These drafted opinions are to be commented and approved by ICC National Committees in the forthcoming ICC Banking Commission meeting in Paris on 10 & 11 May 2004. I encourage you to attend at least once in a life time. I meet delegates from China every year, new faces each year nominated by the banks in China. They are about 25 to 45 in age.
It is so lucky for me to have you, a learned expert on DC, transport and insurance ,as my tutor, my model, and also my friend who gives me encouragement, power and knowledge.
You do not need to thank me. Instead I expect you to share with other DC practitioners, whether they are Chinese or non-Chinese. And I wonder whether I can have the opportunity to come to Beijing and Shanghai to share my knowledge and experience with my fellow Chinese. I did some workshops in Shenzhen and and a two-day in-house workshop with Guangdong Developement Bank in Guangzhou couple of years ago.
Best regards,
J. H.
