Three Rules for Effective Communication

You should consult your legal counsel or other experts for their opinions in your specific cases.
  3. No article, opinion, or comment can be reproduced in whole or in part without our express written permission.

To achieve really effective communication, we need to observe three "difficult to observe" rules:

Rule No. 1

Encourage people to disagree with you so that all of us can go deeper into the issues and learn from one and other.

Rule No. 2

Even if you strongly disagree, you have to respect other's right to think and act differently.

Rule No. 3

Admit your mistake without delay, openly and sincerely. No defense of any kind.

Most people cannot observe these three rules, particularly when they become an expert. I use these three rules in my workshop. People respect us more for this. I heard one lady client, an American lady said: "T. O. I respect you more because you admit openly when you are wrong!"

Hope everybody can do this, but it would take a lot of courage. If you are confident about yourself, there should be no problem to admit mistakes, because no one is perfect.

Have a nice day!

T. O.
