Dear Kim,

We have received similar requests many years ago from importers and exporters who were looking for means to increase their knowledge about intentional trade finance, commodity trading techniques, China trade and risk management.

Some of those who had insight thought that they could not rely on free education services from bankers for many reasons, such as:

  1. Different bankers may have different opinions on the same issue. They might become more confused
  2. Bankers have no personal commitment for providing free services. It is provided in fragmented mode and there is no systematic treatment, step by step approach.
  3. Some banks treat this more as a public relation exercise than a serious education programme.
  4. How could a mouse expect a cat to teach him how to move the cheese from the kitchen to his home safely? Would a bank alert a trader about his right under sub-article 16 (f) of UCP 600?
Some of them told us their grievances that they could not afford to travel to another city just for attending our workshops in these subjects and requested us to reconsider our decision to sell handouts of previous held workshops to them as we did worry that they might misinterpret our messages without face-to-face encounter.
