Introduction §Ç¨¥
We have the honour to invite Mr. T. O. Lee (§õ¹D¦w) of Toronto, a well known expert in letter of credit recommended by Mr. Charles del Busto, the ICC Banking Commission Chairman (1990-1996) to share his experience with us for the tricks parties play in letter of credit operations under the UCP 500 Rules. Traps within the UCP 500 articles will be highlighted so that participants can steer clear of them. Through involvement as a representative of Canada in the ICC Banking Commission, as an International Panellist in the Annual Survey of Letter of Credit Law and Practice held annually in New York and London during 1996-2000, and with good working relationship with the ICC Commercial Crime Bureau, Mr. Lee is the most suitable speaker for this subject due to his vast experience in resolving international L/C disputes and frauds in Hong Kong, Macau, China, and other APEC and Middle East countries as well as USA and Canada. He will also share with our participants his observations on the letter of credit operations and banking practices in the USA and Canada.
The handouts and case studies are based on Mr. Lee's presentation to the members of the Canadian Barrister Association in Toronto, which has received overwhelming success. The tricks and traps are highlighted to create alert amongst participants. It is of great value as an authoritative reference material to the bankers, legal counsel, finance managers, exporters, importers and China Traders who wish to eat well and sleep well in letter of credit operations. Articles Mr. Lee wrote for ICC, Lloyds of London Press and Hong Kong Economic Journal («H³ø) can be viewed from his website http://www.tolee.com.
