Introduction•ú§Ç¨¥

Incoterms 1990 is already nine years old and has now been replaced by Incoterms 2000 as from 1st January 2000. We are proud to invite Mr. T. O. Lee (§õ¹D¦w) from Toronto to explain its implications to your businesses. Mr. Lee is a representative of Canada in the ICC Incoterms 2000 Working Group. Hear from the horse's mouth for the background stories and the different arguments from scholars, experts and practitioners. He will analyze the major changes and the caution areas to bankers, legal counsel, trainers, traders, carriers, freight forwarders and insurers.

Bankers need to update their L/C application forms to match the changes bought by Incoterms 2000 this year. Before doing that they should understand the changes in Incoterms 2000 first. Insurers have to understand how Incoterms 2000 affects their cargo insurance undertakings now. Traders have to be aware of the major changes in the obligations of the sellers and the buyers. Introduction of UCP 500 in 1994 created a lot of confusions and disputes amongst bankers, traders, carriers, freight forwarders and insurers in Hong Kong. If you are not prepared, the same thing may happen again after Incoterms 2000 becomes effective this year. Articles Mr. Lee wrote for ICC, Lloyds of London Press and Hong Kong Economic Journal («H³ø) can be viewed from his website http://www.tolee.com.
