Hello Gary,

I understand that the UCP 500 is to be revised.

And I have some suggestions for the UCP 500 Revision Task Force to consider.

Firstly, is the UCP X00 going to include e-DC. I think the answer should be "yes" particularly the next decade will be e-commerce dominant.

If we have UCP X00 to incorporate rules on e-commerce, then what about eUCP? Is it going to survive? Is that a duplication? Of course ICC would not like to kill a golden goose that can lay eggs.

If you keep the eUCP, then there may be problems. The eUCP version X may be revised sooner and more frequently than the UCP X00 version Y. As a result, there may be mis-match or even conflicts between these two rules.

So the best approach seems to be that the UCP X00 has two parts: (A) the paper document part and (B) the electronic commerce part, covering more scope than e-presentation, such as e-advice, e-confirmation, e-payment, e-negotiation, e-transfer, e-assignment and so on. For the e-presentation part, it says "please refer to the latest version of eUCP". This would resolve all the problems and yet ICC can keep the golden goose alive.

When we go for e-commerce, the UCP X00 needs frequent updating and there is a need to add a version number to it to avoid a large scale revision being done too frequently.

To follow the IT practice, for small updating, where there is no remarkable changes, the number after the "dot" in the version number will be changed, such as version 1.0, 1.2, 1.5, 1.7 and the like. When there are substantial or some fundamental changes, the number before the "dot" in the version number will be changed, such as Version 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 and the like. In this way, users know the intention and nature of the changes made to that particular version.

The early response from the UCP 500 Revision Task Force led by you to such thoughts is appreciated.
